We were lucky to have Guy Lavoipierre snap some pics of Dead Man. (Correction, note the spelling of his surname is Lavoipierre and not LaVive. Must have been thinking.... 'Long Live Guy' when I typed that).Check out his work on his website... awesome stuff from a very good photographer and nice guy! Vive La Guy!!!

We are pleased to say that we have another single origin on offer this week. This is purely for selfish reasons but we want to sample more coffees from more local roasters (actually we just NEED more coffee). Each week we will have a different coffee from Coffee Supreme. This week it's the Kenyan Monarch. Will check it out tomorrow and get back to you.

Pour Over -
We have 4 Singles on offer this week, the Colombian CoE#18 El Porvenir,  Colombian Carlos ImbachiEthiopian, Beloya 17 all from Seven Seeds and a guest coffee from Market Lane Coffee, Kenya Ndimaini. We cupped them off today from the pour over and loved them all. The Beloya stands out a mile away, so sweet and fragrant. The COE is really smooth with some good chocolate notes and the Kenya has blackberries and even some mint up front. We're really excited about getting a wider variety of singles for our new fandangle-state of the art-hi-tech-designer pour over rack. And thanks to Gus, was taken to the next level in design!

Australia Day hours - We will be open on Tuesday the 26th from 8.00am to 2.00pm. So come and load up on a BLT or Panzanella or Omelette of the Day before you get stuck into your VB cans!! (or if you have tastebuds maybe a Coldstream Pilsner or a Red Hill Bohemian Pilsner, or an Oakbank, maybe a Hargreaves Hill Pale Ale.... the list goes on!)

Now a gigantic thank you is in order. Thanks to Fleur Studd of Market Lane Coffee for the loan of their pour over rack. Thanks! As you can see it's not needed any more, as we have finally found our replacement... for now. We will see how they go, ergonomically-wise but so far so good. They do the job! We will play around with some heights and see which ones best.

Ricotta pancakes with poached pear, strawberries, blueberries and buckwheat. Yumo!

So as much as we love our coffee and food and chairs and tea and widemouth-amber-glass-jars, we also love our tunes. With Dead Man we really wanted to play music that A) we like and B) sat well in the cafe. You'll here a bit of Devendra Banhart and Vetiver They are associated with each other, can't remember which one I discovered first, love 'em both. Anyway, sent an email to Andy Cabic, main man behind Vetiver, for some suggestions of other artist. How cool is this... he emailed the below list. Damn what a nice guy!

"There's so much good music out there, it's a never-ending source of inspiration.
you should check out  Skeeter Davis, Sandy Posey, Everly Brothers, Kitty Wells, Johnny Darrell, The Louvin Brothers, Roger Miller, Willie Nelson and Tom T. Hall for some good country. Also Michael Hurley, Bobby Charles, John Compton's "To Luna", Tim Hardin, John Martyn, Richard (and Linda) Thompson, Geoff & Maria Muldaur, Roy Harper, Kate Wolf, Norman Greenbaum, The Lovin' Spoonful, & NRBQ, just 'cause."

Then!!... the next day after getting back from his morning coffee and bagel from his local coffee place, Trouble Coffee he fired of a mixed tape, electronic style. Just too awesome!! It will get a guernsey tomorrow.

Here's what's on the mix:

Beau Brummels:  You Tell Me Why
Skeeter Davis:  It Was Only A Heart
Fairport Convention:  Tale In Hard Time
Sid Selvidge:  Only The Children Know
Miss Abrams and the Strawberry Point 4th Grade Class:  Buildin' A Heaven On Earth
Michael Hurley:  I Paint A Design
Johnny Darrell:  It's A Rough Old Road To Travel
Norma Tanega:  Walkin' My Cat Named Dog

Chris Darrow:  Move On Down The Line
Bert Jansch:  There Comes A Time
Gene Clark:  Because Of You

Is it wrong to get excited about an amber glass jar? I feel as though I've been looking for you all my life (3 weeks at least.) Well, the search is over.

We've been in Auckland for a wedding. Had a 1 hour window to go find some coffee joints. Had a recommendation from Justin & Heath of Coffee Supreme, Melbourne to go see Al at Good One. Which fronts the Coffee Supreme HQ. Was looking forward to it, the design looks awesome.... but... bumma.... closed. Couldn't get phone to work to call, then my window closed. Back to wedding chores.  Next time Auckland.

I was also looking forward to checking out these stools. I think they were designed by Al himself,  from the Good One and made by Simon James Design. Don't quote me yet. Need to check. And are used in the Good One cafe. There's only one thing on par with a good coffee and that's a good chair. Aaahh.... chairs and coffee.... love you both equally!
